Certainly much will be made about Will Muschamp’s first game visiting his alma mater as a head coach in Sanford Stadium on Saturday when South Carolina visits Georgia.

The pre-game buildup and talking points in game will no doubt focus on Muschamp at Georgia, and co-offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon also returning to his alma mater and the only placed he coached before joining Muschamp’s staff in Columbia at the end of 2015. McClendon was also the interim coach of the Georgia bowl game between Mark Richt and Kirby Smart.

But the game will also have national exposure to it as it will be broadcast at 3:30 p.m. on CBS, a marquee time slot for SEC games, even when there’s a primetime game, which this week is LSU-Alabama.

“Any exposure is going to be positive, as far as it’s the right kind of exposure you want,” Muschamp told reporters this week at his regular press conference. “From a recruiting standpoint the number one thing in year two is people see progress from where we were three years ago. That’s what they need to be able to see is positive programs. They see the operations facility, they see the support, they see the game day atmosphere, they see Columbia, they see all the positive things that are happening because the arrow is certainly pointed up right now, and we’ve got to continue to build on that momentum.”

Muschamp added that his players understand that this is a big game and he doesn’t have to remind them. Muschamp said he would rely on older players to lead in that regard.

South Carolina doesn’t make it on CBS very often, certainly in the last couple of years. And historically, the Gamecocks have a losing record on the network since they joined the SEC. But South Carolina has won three straight and is 6-2 ahead of its game at undefeated and No. 2-ranked Georgia.
