Everyone knows that when the South Carolina Gamecocks start the 2018 season, Jake Bentley is going to be the starting quarterback.

However, there had been a question mark about who would be his backup entering this spring. On Saturday, following the Gamecocks’ spring game, coach Will Muschamp announced a winner in that battle.

According to Muschamp, redshirt senior Michael Scarnecchia will serve as Bentley’s primary backup this year:

Freshman Dakereon Joyner was also in the mix to back up Bentley, but he had a rough spring game, so the Gamecocks may decide to redshirt him.

Joyner still has plenty of star potential, but with Bentley set to be the guy this year, it doesn’t make sense to press him into action if it isn’t needed.
