After the 2018 season, the South Carolina Gamecocks lost WR Deebo Samuel to the NFL Draft. Following this past season, WR Bryan Edwards headed off to the pro ranks.

Now, the Gamecocks need someone to step up and take over as the No. 1 receiving threat for the 2020 campaign.

During an interview with Mark Packer, coach Will Muschamp said he’s looking for senior Shi Smith to have a big year (via The State):

“He needs to break out,” Muschamp said on a radio interview with Mark Packer. “Shi had a great freshman year and I think he’s had good sophomore and junior seasons and he needs to have a great year for us.”

Smith appeared in 10 games for the Gamecocks in 2020. He recorded 43 catches for 489 yards and 2 touchdowns.

How will he fare in 2020? We’ll see if he and QB Ryan Hilinski develop chemistry early in the year.
