Much of Will Muschamp’s career has been tied to Nick Saban, but not much has been said about their first interaction.

The 2000 Peach Bowl brought LSU together with Georgia Tech, but Muschamp ultimately used it as a networking opportunity. The South Carolina coach said at SEC Media Days that, “Nick thought I was spying on them, that I was with Georgia Tech. Typical Nick.”

Saban, of course, hired Muschamp a year later at LSU as a linebackers coach, then he became the defensive coordinator in 2002 and the Tigers won the BCS Championship in 2003. Muschamp then went with Saban to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

Muschamp is one of the assistants still looking for the first win against Saban as a head coach, and it’s something he will get an opportunity to pull off this season in Columbia when Alabama visits on Sept. 14.
