There aren’t many happy campers in Columbia, South Carolina these days as it relates to the Gamecock football team. Count coach Will Muschamp in that camp, too, but fans and media have also voiced their outrage following a disappointing loss to North Carolina and news that QB Jake Bentley is out for at least six weeks with a mid-foot sprain.

“We’re pissed off too,” Muschamp said at a press conference on Tuesday in response to fan and media criticism. “We’re in a little bit of a bunker mentality. I don’t read your articles or podcasts or whatever you do. So at the end of the day, it’s whatever we need to do to win, and let’s try to rally to win games. That’s what we’re going to do as a staff, and that’s what we’re going to do as a team, and we’re going to do as an organization. So help us win games. That would be my message, go help us win some football games.”

Before news of Bentley’s injury came out on Monday night, fans already clamored for a change at quarterback, and others brought up the possible buyout of Muschamp’s contract.

The Gamecocks get their first chance to erase some of the memory of the North Carolina loss on Saturday against Charleston Southern with QB Ryan Hilinski starting for the first time.
