South Carolina coach Will Muschamp dropped revealing info about his team’s quarterback situation Thursday.

Speaking at SEC Media Days, he said Perry Orth and Brandon McIlwain have separated themselves in the quarterback race, as reported by David Cloninger of The State.

Orth, a rising senior, had ample experience last season in throwing for 1,929 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. McIlwain, a freshman, is more of an unknown after arriving to South Carolina as a promising four-star prospect as rated by 247Sports.

Meanwhile, Muschamp said Lorenzo Nunez, who had 376 yards passing and 375 yards rushing last year, will see time at wide receiver as well as at quarterback.

In addition, Muschamp said Jake Bentley will receive a look at quarterback in fall camp, per Scott Hood of GamecockCentral.com. Bentley, from Opelika, Alabama, skipped his senior season of high school to enroll at South Carolina.

Many expect this to be a transition season for South Carolina, so it’s no surprise to hear that Muschamp is willing to tinker with a number of possibilities behind center. Gamecocks fans should hope someone asserts himself in short order.
