Will Muschamp had some encouraging news about the South Carolina defense ahead of the Gamecocks’ trip to Baton Rouge to take on LSU.

On “Carolina Calls,” Muschamp said star defensive back Israel Mukuamu is looking good.

“Israel is ready to go. He had a really good practice today Wednesday and a really good day today,” Muschamp said per John Whittle of 247Sports’ The Big Spur. “He’s moving around the best he’s moved since the start of training camp. It’s good to get him back on the field.”

Muschamp also said that Jahmar Brown “had a really good week” and “will get some snaps” in dime coverage and at weak-side linebacker, per Whittle. Muschamp had also said Brown was available to play against Auburn, but the sophomore defender did not play against the Tigers.

The Gamecocks will be without defensive back Cam Smith who had to go to the hospital due to a laceration on his leg. Smith is expected back in action after this week.

South Carolina-LSU is set for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff from Baton Rouge, with the game airing on ESPN.
