Are Florida Sports Betting Apps Legal?
Florida Online Sports Betting is legal as of January 2026, but the Sunshine State’s sports betting landscape is tough to navigate.
Let’s get the basics out of the way and answer the question you came here for: Yes, you can download a real money sports betting app in the state of Florida and get started today so long as you are over the age of 21.
However, Florida’s only legal sports betting app is Hard Rock Bet, which is operated by the Florida Seminole tribe. Prospective bettors in the state can also visit any Seminole Tribe-controlled casinos.
Because of this exclusivity, there isn’t much out there for when it comes to betting bonuses in Florida. Hard Rock Bet does have a $100 First Bet Bonus for new users, but it is not pushed by other operators to offer any more.
Online sports betting in Florida is a reality thanks to a 2021 compact between the State of Florida and the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The deal brought legal sports betting to Florida, allowed the Seminole Tribe casinos to offer roulette and craps, and allowed the expansion of tribal casinos at several locations. Effectively, Florida sports gambling is operated by the Seminole tribe while the state earns a share (around $2.5 billion per year) of all sports betting revenue.
The limited nature of Florida Sportsbook apps has led to the rise of DFS apps in the Sunshine State. The Best Daily Fantasy Apps such as Underdog Fantasy, VividPicks, Sleeper Picks, Boom Fantasy, Dabble Fantasy and so many more are live and readily available on the App Store or Google Play Store for those over 18. Some DFS apps require users to be 19+.
DFS contests are not explicitly included in the Florida state constitution’s unlawful gambling legislation, meaning DFS apps are not regulated in the Sunshine state. So, it’s not technically legal, but it’s also not deemed illegal and is such available for download and use.

Best DFS Sites in Florida for January 2026
While Hard Rock Bet may be the only online option for Florida Sports Bettors, there is an alternative that everyone in the state of Florida 18+ can enjoy: Daily Fantasy Sports. There are many different ways to play, but among the most popular revolves around Pick’Em higher/lower contests.
So how does it work? First, the florida gambling app posts a prompt that you have to choose higher than or lower than. Letโs take Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa as an example. The former Alabama QB averaged around 265 passing yards per game last season, so the app would set the prompt at around that number. Your job is simply to choose whether his actual total will be above or below that number.
There are also fantasy contests, tournaments and survivor pools, with each app offering something for everyone. Below you can find a list of the top available DFS apps in the state of Florida:

Perhaps the best-looking app on this list, Sleeper is also a juggernaut when it comes to DFS Pick’Em contests.
There are a few different ways to play with Sleeper. Of course, you’ve got Pick’Em contests for professional sports leagues. But Sleeper also offers fantasy basketball and fantast football contests. You can even practice your draft strategy with a mock draft prior to getting started.
As for their picks section, it’s extensive. The multiplier/payout is dependent on your combination of picks, and each pick has a different multiplier based, whether it be for touchdowns scored, interceptions, passing yards, rushing yards, etc.
PrizePicks
PrizePicks allows users to make between 2-6 picks, with 2-3-4-pick entries yielding less than 5-6-pick entries. Like the above, PrizePicks offers contests for NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, PGA, MMA and MLS contests. On top of that, PrizePicks offers Daily Fantasy Contests in most U.S. states, including Florida.
Its welcome offer isn’t half bad either. Enter any contest with $5 and claim $50 in bonus credit, win or lose.
Florida residents can access both the picks and daily fantasy draft section on the PrizePicks mobile and desktop apps.

Florida Online Sports Betting: Legal Landscape
Legal online sports betting in Florida is fairly straightforward: Hard Rock Bet is the lone Florida sports betting app available, thanks to the exclusivity the Seminole Tribe is afforded under current law.
How we got there, however, is a big more complicated.
The road to legal Florida online sports betting has been a long one. Here’s a look at a timeline for Florida mobile sports betting.
- June 2024: West Flagler Associates’ appeal to overturn Seminole Gaming Compact fails, as the US Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to the agreement that gives the Seminole Tribe exclusive rights to manage online sports betting. The tribe now has exclusive rights to Florida Sports Betting until 2051.
- November 2023: Hard Rock Bet relaunches in Florida after a 2-year hiatus.
- January 2022: Florida’s sports betting initiative #21-13 failed to meet the required signatures for a crucial spot on the November 2022 ballot.
- August 2021: Florida online sports betting approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
- June 2021: A 2022 sports betting ballot measure is accepted and published by the Florida Division of Elections. If approved by voters in 2022, Floridians will be able to place bets at professional sports stadiums, at qualified parimutuel facilities and through Florida online sports betting programs. It would also allow online sports betting through third-party operators and by Native American tribes with a gaming compact. The measure is backed by DraftKings and FanDuel and is widely believed to be a backup plan if the gaming compact is denied by the U.S. Department of the Interior or if online sports betting is stripped from the plan.
- May 2021: The House and Senate both approve the 30-year gaming compact, effectively legalizing sports betting. The document is sent to the U.S. Department of the Interior for approval. The department has 45 days to review the compact and either approve, deny, or take no action. Legislators note that sports betting will not be allowed in the state in any form until at least Oct. 15, 2021. Challenges to the gaming compact are expected.
- April 2021: A groundbreaking deal that announced the legalization of retail and online sports betting come to fruition. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the new compact that will pave way for Seminole Tribe-controlled sports gambling in the state. House Speaker Chris Sprowls then confirmed the signing on the House floor shortly after the news broke. The legislature will approve of the compact in a special session for the week of May 17.
- January 2020: Senator Jeff Brandes files a bill to authorize the Florida Lottery to regulate sports betting without the tribe, but it goes nowhere.
- October 2019: Governor Ron DeSantis refused to sign off on a deal that would have allowed Tribal casinos to offer sports gambling, with a cut of the revenue paid to the Seminole.
- November 2018: The Seminole took control of any gambling in the state by supporting the passage of Amendment 3 in Novemberโs election. It prohibits the legislature from authorizing new casino gambling without other approval.
- May 2018: PASPA is overturned, opening the door for states to legalize online sports betting.
While Hard Rock Bet is the only legal option in Florida, bettors in other states can take advantage of offers like the BetMGM bonus code, which provides up to $1,500 in bonus bets for new users.
Florida Online Sports Betting Revenue
The Miami Herald is projecting Florida should rake in $500 million in annual revenue, courtesy of the groundbreaking April 2021 deal that will allow retail and online sports betting.
โThe Seminole Tribe of Florida is committed to a mutually beneficial gaming compact with the State of Florida and looks forward to its approval by the Florida Legislature, the Seminole Tribal Council and the U.S. Department of the Interior,โ Seminole Tribe of Florida Chairman Marcellus Osceola Jr. said in a statement to the Herald/Times.
Florida Retail Sports Betting Locations — January 2026
The state of Florida currently houses 26 casinos that currently allow gambling. Many of these venues are racetracks, although each has been vigorously lobbying for the right to add more gaming (i.e. slot machines).
Eight of these 26 venues and two casino boats currently pick up passengers and take wagers once the boats are offshore, while some of the Native American casinos already offer slot machines, table games and video gaming.
The blockbuster April 2021 deal will put an end to the limitations and overall pain Florida casino gaming has experienced over the years.

Notable Florida Football Teams
It doesn’t get much better than Florida football. Sure, states such as Texas, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Ohio and others have a worthwhile claim, but Florida’s all-around offerings rank up there with the best in the country.
Here’s a look at the top Florida-based football teams Sunshine State residents can bet on or participate in Daily Fantasy Sports contests with.

Florida Gators Football
Florida was expected to crash and burn entering 2024, and its start appeared to show that just that was going to happen. Instead, Billy Napier and the Gators impressed big time.
The Gators’ schedule was among the hardest in college football, but Florida still managed to finish the year 8-5. Florida danced with CFP-bound Tennessee and beat the likes of UCF, LSU, Ole Miss and Florida State.
As of September 1, the Gators are +4000 to win the national title in 2025/26, per Hard Rock Bet.

Florida State Seminoles Football
It’s hard to imagine the 2025 season going any worse for Florida State. The Seminoles finished the year 2-10 – one of the worst showings in Seminoles history.
There are a lot of questions to answer in Tallahassee, but Mike Norvel hopped out to a great start in 2025 by downing No. 8 Alabama. Florida State is +12000 to win the national title in 2025-26.

Miami Hurricanes Football
- Miami Hurricanes Football is +2200 to win the 2025-26 National Championship
Miami started the 2025 season with a bang, knocking off No. 6 Notre Dame behind an exciting performance from Carson Beck and his host of talented receivers.
Florida NFL Teams

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2500 to win Super Bowl 60
Tampa Bay had a good, not great 2024-25 season. The Bucs reached the playoffs and fell to Washington.

Miami Dolphins
- Miami Dolphins +12000 to win Super Bowl 60
The Dolphins are the definition of “middle-pack” right now. The talent is there, but they’ve fallen short several times across the past few years. Is Tua Tagovailoa the answer at QB moving forward? We’ll see soon.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville is in a bad spot right now. The Jaguars have a new head coach in town following a 4-13 season, and it’s likely that they’ll remain one of the worst teams in football next season.
The Jags are +10000 to win Super Bowl LX at Hard Rock Bet.

Like Texas, Florida is one of the six states in the country that does not assess an income tax. There is also no official tax amount on any type of lottery winnings in Florida. All winnings above $5,000, online or retail, must be reported as income to the IRS.
Similar to California’s situation, the Native American Casinos control the Florida gambling industry. The April 2021 deal made it official that the tribes will serve as the hub that controls retail and online sports betting.
Florida residents have the final say on all gaming expansions in the state, courtesy of a vote that gave them the final say. Despite the tribal casino powers, state voters have a tremendous say in the matter.
Yes, Florida does allow daily fantasy sports, as it is not officially deemed as sports wagering. The profit made from playing is taxable income.
You can play at tribal casinos in Florida, but there are no online casinos available in Florida.
Florida’s betting market could be massive. Many experts project a sports betting handle passing $2 billion a month in the state. This number is most likely on the conservative side, however, based on other states’ recent history.
With nearly two decades of experience in sports media, Paul Costanzo turned his professional attention to sports betting and online gambling in January of 2022. He's covered every angle of the industry since then, managing and creating content for PlayMichigan and The Sporting News, and now SDS.
