Brent Venables and Joe Castiglione have taken the unusual step of putting out a statement following QB Caleb Williams’ announcement that he has entered the transfer portal.
Venables, Oklahoma’s new head coach, and Castiglione, the Sooners’ athletics director, wrote that they will continue to be engaged in Williams’ development, including graduation and strategic name, image and likeness opportunities.
“While we believe OU provides Caleb the best opportunity to develop as a player,” the statement read, “and realize his goals for college and beyond, we respect his right to explore his options following key staffing changes here.”
They also discussed the hiring of Jeff Lebby, formerly of Ole Miss, as the new offensive coordinator, and that the program has won more games than any other since 1999.
