Chase Brice is finally going to be given his opportunity to show what he can do on the field as a starting quarterback.

The former Clemson quarterback left Dabo Swinney’s program this offseason after serving as Trevor Lawrence’s backup the previous two seasons. Brice landed at Duke as a graduate transfer, making him eligible immediately.

On Sunday evening, Brice was officially named the starting quarterback for David Cutcliffe as Duke is set to open the season at No. 10 Notre Dame on Saturday. The game is set to be broadcast nationally by NBC.

Brice was a four-star recruit in the 2017 recruiting cycle and will now replace last season’s starter, Quentin Harris, who exhausted his eligibility at Duke. Brice had two seasons of eligibility remaining to play at Duke but could stay on for three years and work under Cutcliffe now that the NCAA has given a free season of eligibility to all players.

During his time at Clemson, Brice threw for 1,023 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions.

After Lawerence suffered an injury against Syracuse back in 2018, Brice came in and rallied Clemson to a victory, keeping the Tigers’ undefeated season alive. Clemson went on to win the national championship that season.
