Another Pac-12 game canceled due to COVID
The Pac-12 is already having to cancel a game for next weekend.
Arizona State has canceled next week’s clash with Colorado due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Sun Devils’ program.
ASU also wasn’t able to play its game this past weekend due to the virus.
“The cancellation of another game is very difficult to accept for all of us, but it continues to be the right decision under the circumstances,” Arizona State athletic director Ray Tanner said in a statement. “The health, safety and welfare of our student-athletes is our number one priority and will continue to be at the forefront of every decision.
“As we announced Friday for our contest against Cal, the number of positive cases in the last few days has put our team below the Pac-12’s minimum threshold of 53 available scholarship student-athletes under the league’s game cancellation policy. Unfortunately we are in the same situation for this week’s scheduled game with CU.”
Tanner also noted they intentionally chose to make the call early in the week. The hope is the Pac-12 will have time to look into alternative scheduling arrangements involving Colorado.
For this past week, the Pac-12 had two canceled games between Arizona State-Cal and UCLA-Utah. However, the conference was able to stage a make-up game between the healthy programs, Cal and UCLA, for Sunday morning. The Bruins won 34-10.
