Dillon Gabriel decided to transfer after spending 3 years at UCF, and he’s now picked his new school.

On Thursday, Gabriel announced that he’s transferring to UCLA ahead of the 2022 season. He’ll look to become the Bruins’ starting quarterback after a broken collarbone ended his 2021 campaign after 3 games.

Gabriel brings plenty of experience with him to UCLA, as he was UCF’s starting QB for 2-plus seasons. He had 3,653 yards, 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 13 games as a true freshman in 2019. Then in 2020, he had 3,570 yards, 32 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 10 games.

Prior to getting injured in 2020, Gabriel passed for 818 yards, 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 3 games. He broke his collarbone in the Knights’ loss to Louisville on Sept. 17.

Gabriel was a 3-star recruit out of Mililani (Hawaii) High School and was part of UCF’s 2019 class.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson is currently UCLA’s starting quarterback, and the senior has 4 years of experience with the Bruins. He still has 1 more year of eligibility, but he hasn’t yet announced whether he’ll return or declare for the 2022 NFL Draft.

If Thompson-Robinson leaves, it will open a clear path for Gabriel to the starting job. Otherwise, the 2 may have to battle for it.
