Florida State pulled off a surprising big gain early on in the second quarter against Miami on Saturday night.
Facing a 4th and 1 from their own half of the field, the Noles dialed up a quarterback sneak. Luke Kromenhoek took the snap and dove forward for the first down — and then ended up with a lot more than he bargained for.
Kromenhoek spun out of the muck and ended up taking it 42 yards deep into Miami territory. A few plays later, FSU cashed in with a touchdown to make it 14-7.
Here’s video of Kromenhoek’s unlikely chunk play:

Remarkably, this was only FSU’s third scrimmage play of the season to go for more than 40 yards. FSU entered Week 9 as the only ACC team that didn’t have at least 3 such plays so far this season.
Florida State was more than a 3-touchdown underdog in this rivalry matchup against the Hurricanes. FSU has had a dreadful season so far and must win-out in order to reach bowl eligibility in 2024. To this point in the year, FSU’s only win is against Cal.
Miami holds the all-time series advantage in this series, 35-33.
