Georgia Tech breaks through on Haynes King run for game’s first TD vs. Georgia

Georgia Tech and Georgia are meeting in the latest installment of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, and Brent Key’s Yellow Jackets came out swinging in Athens.
In spite of being a near 3-touchdown underdog, Georgia Tech opened the game with a field goal on its opening possession and has driven into Georgia’s territory on a regular basis. A couple of empty trips could come back to bite the Yellow Jackets, but they cashed in their most recent possession.
After converting a crucial 3rd down with a key pass to Jackson Hawes for 16 yards, Haynes King carried it in from 2 yards out for a 10-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. It is the largest deficit Georgia has faced against an unranked opponent so far this season.

King has been largely fantastic in the first half of this one. He is 8-for-11 for 107 yards throwing the ball and also has 41 rushing yards, including some tough gains between the tackles, to go with his rushing touchdown.
Georgia Tech reached the red zone on its first 4 possessions of the game, a great sign throughout the first half. However, the Yellow Jackets left points on the field with a missed field goal and turnover on downs, and those points could loom large when we get later in the game.
