Greg McElroy shares what he was 'most impressed with' in Miami's win over Florida
It’s the morning after in college football. The morning after the 1st full Saturday of the season.
That means there was a lot to talk about for ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy on Sunday morning, and McElroy had a lot of things to say, most notably about No. 19 Miami’s 41-17 whacking of Florida at The Swamp.
The Hurricanes’ rout was powered by Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward, who threw for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns with just 1 interception in his Miami debut. Ward added 33 yards on the ground on 3 carries.
McElroy shared what impressed him the most about Miami’s big win.
“What I was most impressed with were the few mistakes that were made in the game,” McElroy said on his ‘Always College Football’ podcast. “We’ve seen them look really good in the beginning of the year [before], but, man, with Cam Ward at quarterback, they’re very, very different. The way he can move and flip his hips … we’re talking about pinpoint accuracy that was on display.
“I don’t think there was a quarterback in the country that improved their draft stock in 1 game more than Cam Ward did [Saturday].”
Ward is already being hyped as a Heisman Trophy candidate after Saturday’s performance in Gainesville, and a month ago he was named the ACC Preseason Player of the Year.
Miami will face Florida A&M in Week 2.
I would reserve judgement on Cam Ward and the Canes for until they play a real defense. The fact is they won’t play a sorrier defense this year than the one they played in Gainesville yesterday.
