Mike Norvell hasn’t lost faith in quarterback DJ Uiagalelei despite the team’s 0-3 start.

Uiagalelei’s struggles have been well-documented through the first few weeks of the season. In his 5th college football season, Uiagalelei is having a career-worst season from an efficiency standpoint. He’s averaging just 6.7 yards per attempt and has just 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions after 3 games.

However, Uiagalelei played pretty well in the second half on Saturday after FSU’s loss to Memphis. It was his best stretch of the season do-date. At his press conference on Monday, Norvell said he’s happy with how his starting QB is preparing and added that he’s giving FSU “a chance” to be successful.

“I think when you look at the game, there were some things that DJ did really well in putting guys in a position,” Norvell said. “Trying to give opportunities, but there was also a few times that we had some missed opportunities on his part … just in our overall execution.

“I am pleased with the way that he’s preparing. I am pleased with the things that he’s doing. You see the moments where he’s giving us a chance. He’s giving us an opportunity to have big plays.”

In the second half against Memphis, Uiagalelei threw for 170 yards on 17 attempts. However, that uptick in efficiency wasn’t enough for Florida State to complete the comeback against the Tigers at home.

The Noles will be hoping to more production out of Uiagalelei and their offensive as a whole moving forward. FSU will host Cal on Saturday.
