If you missed the biggest overnight story in college football, Florida State team captain Marvin Wilson issued a strong statement in response to a much weaker one from his head coach, Mike Norvell.

According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Norvell issued a statement outlining Florida State’s efforts to keep communication with the Seminoles during these difficult times. Here are the first few lines of Norvell’s statement as shared by Reed:

“We’ve had a lot of open communication with our team, our players and our coaches. I went back and forth individually with every player this weekend,” Norvell’s statement read. “And that was something that was important to me because this is a heartbreaking time in our country…”

It didn’t take long before Wilson chimed in stating that never happened. Wilson, a team captain at FSU, also claimed the Seminoles plan to stop workouts.

“Man this s*** did not happen mane. We got a generated text that was sent to everybody,” Wilson tweeted in response to Norvell’s statement. “There was no one on one talk between us and coach. This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice #hunchoout”

The way Paul Finebaum views this incident, if it’s proven Norvell did make that claim and never backed it up, this could prove to be one of the biggest mistakes in a long line of errors made in Tallahassee in recent seasons.

During his most recent appearance on ESPN morning program, “Get Up,” the SEC Network host offered up his take on the situation.

“It’s fairly shocking. I mean remember, Mike Norvell came from Memphis – this is his first year,” Finebaum said on the show. “He took over for Willie Taggart, who failed to follow Jimbo Fisher – and I can’t think of a worse beginning for a coach.

“And again, I want to hear, and I think we all want to hear, from Norvell. He has a really good reputation as a football coach. But if this is true. I mean, this is a cataclysmic beginning at an inflection point time in history when you would just make something up to try to look like you’re keeping up with everyone else. I mean I’m quite shocked to hear the story so far.”

Now we await Norvell and FSU to respond as both have been quiet following Wilson’s heated comments on Wednesday night.
