Nebraska’s sellout streak will continue this week, marking the 376th straight game at Memorial Stadium that will be filled to capacity. But it took some large purchases by donors to get there.

On Tuesday, Cornhuskers athletic director Trev Alberts shared with the media that a group of boosters purchased thousands of tickets for Saturday’s game against Fordham to give to underserved children throughout Nebraska, a program that is called the “Red Carpet Experience.”

“We have an awful lot of young people who just don’t have access to enjoy Husker athletics — particularly Husker football — because the experience is outside of their economic circumstances,” Alberts told Ryan Soderlin of the Omaha World-Herald. “I heard from a whole lot of our donors and others who very, very much passionately wanted to keep the sellout streak alive.”

However, if that streak is going to continue for the Cornhuskers beyond this week, there may be more programs like this on the way. According to Soderlin, Nebraska has yet to sell out the rest of its home games for the 2021 season.

“This is going to be a weekly grind,” Alberts told Soderlin.

The Cornhuskers’ season got off to a disappointing start this past Saturday, as they lost at Illinois, 30-22. They’ll now look to turn things around and get on track for the rest of the year.

Nebraska and Fordham are set to kick off on Saturday at noon ET on Big Ten Network.
