Oklahoma at No. 8: CFB media reacts to biggest surprise of CFP rankings

The first College Football Playoff rankings were unveiled Tuesday evening on ESPN. Oklahoma’s ranking of No. 8 was the biggest surprise of Tuesday’s reveal.
Lincoln Riley’s squad is the only current 9-win undefeated team. The committee, however, clearly was not impressed by OU’s wins, ranking the Sooners behind one-loss Alabama (No. 2), Oregon (No. 4), Ohio State (No. 6) and Michigan (No. 7) as well as undefeated Group of 5 program Cincinnati (No. 8).
Oklahoma’s ranking produced a wide-ranging media reaction. On Twitter, the most common reaction from media members was surprise. Some media members laughed while others explained the committee’s thinking.
Here’s what’s being said about the Sooners:
Oklahoma has no Top 25 wins, and pretty much every metric the committee values doesn't like them (b.c they've barely beaten bad teams).
Whereas No. 7 Michigan has no Top 25 wins, and a loss, but all the metrics love them.

No one should be surprised that Oklahoma is down to No. 8. The eye test is real. Brand name bias often overlaps but it's an unfair criticism of the committee. Oklahoma has failed the eye test basically every week and doesn't have a big win.

Oklahoma being at No. 8 doesn't matter. If the Sooners win out, they're getting in the playoff. The tough part of the schedule is ahead of them:
Baylor
Iowa State
Oklahoma State
