For parts of the past couple of seasons, it has seemed as though Clay Helton was on his way out at USC.
After starting 3-3 in 2019, the rumors really started linking Urban Meyer to the job, should it come open. However, it appears Meyer won’t be returning to the sidelines.
And, according to Yahoo’s Pete Thamel, USC has now decided to keep Helton around as its head coach in 2020, ending a lengthy process:

New AD Mike Bohn seems willing to wait to make a move. At 8-4, Helton did turn the 2019 season around, though the Trojans didn’t make it to the Pac-12 title game.
Helton probably won’t feel too safe, but it seems he has at least one more year to impress his new bosses.
