Although the Austin native just completed his senior season, he would have been able to return in 2021 if he desired, as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) decided in August to not count the 2020 campaign as a year of eligibility for student-athletes.
Graduating from Westlake High School, Ehlinger appeared in 46 games as a Longhorn, including starting each contest over the last three seasons, and led Texas to 27 wins, the fourth-most of any signal-caller in program history.
His 11,436 passing yards and 94 touchdown tosses each rank second on the school’s all-time charts, trailing only Colt McCoy.
This news has some Southeastern Conference significance, particularly to Arkansas fans, as the Longhorns, who parted ways with head coach Tom Herman after four years on January 2 and hired Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Steve Sarkisian, are scheduled to clash with the Razorbacks in Fayetteville on September 11, 2021.
