Travis Hunter took the field at FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Florida, with a unique pregame outfit.

Earlier in the week, former NFL corner Richard Sherman made headlines when he called Hunter a “bland” receiver on a podcast. The 2 seemingly spoke and sorted things out, but that didn’t stop Hunter from showing up to Saturday’s game against UCF wearing a t-shirt with “Bland” on the front of it.

Hunter is a 2-way star for the Buffaloes. His NFL pedigree is unquestionable, but there has been an intense debate about whether he’ll be able to play both sides of the ball in the pros the way he has in college.

Some have said it’s disrespectful to current NFL players to suggest Hunter can do both. Some think he’ll be better as a corner. On Amon-Ra St. Brown’s podcast this week, Sherman said Hunter needs to focus on corner.

“As a receiver, he’s kinda bland,” Sherman said. “I think he goes as a corner just because receivers his size… he’s not a special size, super dynamic route runner. He’s a great athlete and he’s smooth so he can get it done. I’m sure if he focused on receiver he could be elite, but as a corner, he just looks natural.”

That didn’t sit right with folks in Boulder. Even former NFL receiver Terrell Owens — a frequent presence on Colorado sidelines since Deion Sanders took over — called out Sherman, saying his comment “just smells like hate.”

In a video shared on YouTube by Deion Sanders Jr., Hunter said Sherman’s remarks cut a little more because he has modeled his game after the former Seahawk star. But he also said the 2 spoke and settled any hard feelings.

Sherman acknowledged that conversation as well.

Hunter has been outstanding this season for Colorado. He entered Week 5 in the top 10 nationally in per-game receiving yardage. He leads the Buffs with 37 receptions for 472 yards and 5 touchdowns. And he’s widely expected to jump to the NFL after the season. FanDuel has him priced at +1800 to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
