Prior to being promoted to head coach in Norman following the retirement of Bob Stoops, Riley was on the Sooners’ staff for 2 seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. That came after 4 seasons as associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at East Carolina.
At Oklahoma, Riley’s record through 5 seasons was 55-10 with a 37-7 mark in the Big 12. This year, the Sooners were 10-2 (7-2 Big 12). Under Riley’s guidance, they finished inside the top 10 in the AP poll in his first 4 seasons, with Riley being named Big 12 coach of the year in 2018.
