Wisconsin made the surprising decision to fire coach Paul Chryst earlier this year.

It appears the surprises aren’t done just yet in Madison. The Badgers were expected to promote interim coach Jim Leonhard to the full-time role, but that doesn’t appear to be the case any longer.

Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Badgers are now targeting Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell as the new leader of the program:

Fickell has done great work at Cincinnati. Just last season, he guided the Bearcats to the College Football Playoff, becoming the first Group of 5 team to make the field of 4.

He has familiarity with the Big Ten, having served as an assistant at Ohio State for many years. He also played collegiately at Ohio State.

We’ll see if the Badgers can finalize a deal with Fickell soon and also what the future holds for Leonhard as he is likely disappointed in not getting the full-time job.
