The 2017 cycle is important for Texas A&M and head coach Kevin Sumlin, who could use some positive momentum in the program.

So with that, here are five 2017 prospects all Aggies should know.

1. Tate Martell, QB, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman

I usually do not mention committed prospects in these pieces, but because of the dire need at quarterback that Texas A&M has this cycle, it’s worth it to mention Martell, who has been pledged to the Aggies for some time. Martell isn’t tall at 5-foot-11, but has a great arm and the speed, footwork and quickness to make him dangerous in the run game as well. He’s similar to Johnny Manziel if you want to get right down to it and could very well end up being a special player during his time with the Aggies.

2. Toneil Carter, RB, Houston (Texas) Langham Creek

This 5-foot-11, 205-pounder is explosive, has excellent feet and agility and really is one of the most complete backs in Texas this cycle. Carter is the No. 7 running back prospect for the 2017 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings and the No. 15 overall prospect in the Lone Star State. LSU is the other major player besides the Aggies early.

3. Grayson Reed, OT, Houston (Texas) Cypress Creek

Reed currently figures to be a three-way in-state battle with the Aggies, Texas and TCU. The 6-foot-5, 304-pounder has good size, an excellent frame and footwork and plus athleticism. He is the No. 33 offensive tackle prospect nationally in the 2017 recruiting cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.

4. Omar Manning, WR, Lancaster (Texas)

The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Manning has an outstanding hands/speed combination and is the nation’s No. 24 wide receiver prospect in the 2017 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings. Early on, it appears that the Aggies must beat TCU for his services.

5. Kary Vincent, CB, Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial

The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder obviously will need to add strength and bulk, but his coverage skills, speed and feet are very good. Vincent is the No. 25 cornerback prospect nationally in the 2017 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings. Arkansas, Baylor, Houston and others also have offered, but the Aggies are considered the early team to beat.
