3 takeaways from Texas A&M's big win over Mississippi State
The Texas A&M Aggies got back in the win column on Saturday after defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs 51-10. The story of this game will assuredly be the play of Jaylen Henderson.
Henderson received his first start due to Max Johnson dealing with a rib injury. Henderson answered the call, accounting for 4 touchdowns, 150 passing yards, and 60 rushing yards.
On the other hand, the Bulldogs struggled to get anything going on offense and switched to Chris Parson at QB.
Now, let’s go over the 3 takeaways from this SEC West battle.
Jaylen Henderson looks like a star
Henderson was forced to play after Max Johnson’s injury. The QB stepped up in a major way, throwing for 150 yards and rushing for 60 more. The QB accounted for 4 total TDs and led his team to scoring 51 points.
The QB not only shined through the air, but with his legs as well. This game was the best the Aggie offense looked all season. Henderson’s dual-threat ability paired with a stingy Aggie defense were too much for the Bulldogs to handle. It will be interesting to see how Jimbo Fisher handles the QB position going forward.
Mississippi State can’t find an answer at QB
Will Rogers is still out with an injury. Leading up to this game, Rogers was considered “day-to-day,” but did not play. Caoch Zach Arnett will be ready to get his star QB back for next week’s matchup, because neither QB that played Saturday inspired much confidence.
Granted, the Aggies have a stellar defense. However, neither Bulldog QB could move the ball effectively. Mike Wright finished with 68 passing yards and 16 rushing yards. Freshman Chris Parson had an even worse night, throwing 3 interceptions and finishing with just 36 yards. Rogers is desperately needed back for the Bulldogs.
The Aggie defense was dominant
Coming into this game, the Aggies were No. 125 in the nation in turnover differential. The team had forced just 3 fumbles and 4 interceptions on the season.
Against the Bulldogs, the Aggies forced 4 turnovers. 3 interceptions and 1 fumble doomed the Bulldogs in this game, and the offense could never recover.
The Aggies also collected 4 sacks, terrorizing both Bulldog QBs all night. It’s tough to beat these Aggies when the defense is playing like this.
