Take a deep breath Aggies’ fans, the dreaded second-half jinx is officially over. Daniel LaCamera’s fourth field goal of the game in Saturday’s 19-17 victory over Florida ended it. In The Swamp no less. Aggie Nation sang loud and long after the clock showed zeros on the first of what fans hope will be a string of second-half victories.

Yes, the second half of the season has started, and it doesn’t look like all the other recent nightmarish last halves have. Take a breath, collect yourselves, the Aggies have a bye week and then the final five games await. The first three are at Kyle Field and the final two on the road. So that could make for a prime opportunity to continue to erase some very unpleasant second-half memories over the last few seasons.

It’s over! The second-half jinx is over … isn’t it? Regardless of the moves, the changes, the player personnel, it simply didn’t change the outcome of recent second-half collapses. That’s all ancient history now. Say it with me: the second half of this season is all Aggies!

Surely home games with struggling Mississippi State, wounded Auburn, and lowly New Mexico State will provide the opportunity to punctuate this new direction for the Aggies. A direction that surely will have Aggies fans swaying with delight.

This was a monumental victory, on the road, that Aggie Nation can hang its hat on. Déjà vu no longer, this team has finally cleared that hurdle. A young team continues to improve, sure. The 18 true freshmen head coach Kevin Sumlin had already employed heading into the Florida game matched the most in a single season in program history, equaling the 2009 squad.

Make that 18 true freshmen, 10 redshirt freshmen and 13 sophomores over the first six games this season.

And they’re only going to grow and improve from here on out. This team is trending in a whole new way. No more excuses. No more, wait till next year. Next year has arrived. And what a sigh of relief it is.

The Aggies have five games left to cement this new found euphoria. The task at hand is clearly defined. There can be no mistaking it. This is an Aggies team that has overcome. Overcome the debacle with UCLA. Overcome the second-half misery of recent seasons. It’s a whole new ballgame in College Station.

The time is now for Sumlin and the Aggies to catch their collective breath, heal some wounds, and come out like a team possessed against MSU in two weeks and carry on this momentum, ride this wave to a big season.
