Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin addressed the media Tuesday and spoke about his freshman quarterback, the upcoming game with Auburn and the 12th man.

Here are some of his comments:

ON IF THERE IS STILL AN OPEN QUARTERBACK COMPETITION:

“No. Kyler is going to start this game. (Saturday) wasn’t just about Kyler, but the other 10 on the field. The tempo we had for three quarters was effective.”

ON THE CROWD AT KYLE FIELD IN THE WIN OVER SOUTH CAROLINA:

“I just want to say I thought that our fans did a great job Saturday, I want to thank the 12th Man. The (weather) forecast was not good, it was an early kickoff at 11 o’clock, but it was a great crowd Saturday. We appreciated it and that is something we don’t take for granted.”

ON COMPARISONS OF MURRAY TO JOHNNY MANZIEL:

“I don’t think it is fair to compare the two. He plays at Texas A&M, so there will be comparisons, but i don’t think it’s fair. Each has his own skill set.”

ON PREPARATION FOR AUBURN NOW THAT MURRAY IS ON VIDEO:

“Each week we go in with a plan and there is video on both sides. We both try to get a feel for what will happen and what is best for our team.”

ON AUBURN’S CARL LAWSON GETTING BACK ON THE FIELD:

“There is the return of Carl Lawson and he is an elite player as a pass rusher.”

ON THE CONFIDENCE IN KICKER TAYLOR BERTOLET:

“He’s been pretty good for us this year. We’ve kicked more this year, I think we kicked 11 or 12 (field goals) each in the last four years and he’s kicked a lot more. I have a lot of confidence in Taylor. He’s had a solid year.”

ON AUBURN’S SPECIAL TEAMS:

“There’s only been five kickoff returns and four punt returns in seven games. They have a strong kicker, punter and return game. Special teams will be big in the game. If you look at their record, they have lost a lot of one-score games and special teams have done a lot in keeping them in there.”

ON THE GAME BEING PLAYED IN COLLEGE STATION:

“The last three games the visitor has won whether it was us going there or them here. They will not be intimidated.”

ON AUBURN’S DEFENSE DEFENDING THE RUN WITH MURRAY PLAYING:

“It (Murray getting outside against South Carolina) had something to do with it putting pressure on the perimeter. His ability didn’t hurt us. Auburn sees that all the time in practice.”

ON AUBURN’S OFFENSE:

“Gus Malzahn is really good running the ball. Auburn wants to be a power running team, not with just the read (option), but with a blocker out front. Once you commit eight or nine guys, they hurt you with play action. They have a lot of talented players on the perimeter.”

ON A&M’S DEFENSIVE GOALS:

“What hurt us Saturday was four big plays that went for 200 yards. We have to make them earn everything. We’ve got to eliminate big plays.”

ON THE DEFENSE’S TALENT TO FORCE FUMBLES:

“We put an emphasis on turnover margin. In our meeting on Tuesdays, we talk about turnovers and penalties and we only had three penalties and were plus-2 in turnovers (against South Carolina). Turnovers, we put an emphasis on them on defense. An emphasis on running to the ball with purpose so when the ball comes loose we have people around it.”
