The Aggies held a recruiting barbecue on Sunday afternoon, and it appears to have paid off.

Barton Clement, a 4-star guard prospect from Missouri City, Texas, announced his commitment to Texas A&M while attending the event, according to a report by Taylor Hamm of 247Sports. He chose the Aggies over Florida and Texas, the other two schools that comprised his top three.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for this moment,” Clement told 247Sports. “Now it’s my opportunity to be a part of something great. They’ve always been there from the beginning. It took a little longer because I wanted to do my research and go through the recruiting process.”

There were factors that went into Clement’s decision other than the football program, however. The 6-foot-2, 301-pound offensive lineman wants to be a chemical engineer, and he explained Texas A&M’s curriculum in that academic area was a major plus. He became the second player to commit to the Aggies over the weekend, joining linebacker Brian Johnson.

Clement is rated the No. 9 offensive guard prospect for the Class of 2018 and the No. 30 overall prospect from the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite.
