Buzz Williams has Texas A&M climbing into the top 15 this season and looking to put together a strong season in the SEC. While the stars of the Aggies get a lot of attention, Williams highlighted some of the unsung heroes on Friday.

For Texas A&M, that group of players is made up of a unit known as the “Blue Team.” In a video shared to social media, Williams highlighted just why that group is important.

“When that group arrived is when we started the Blue Team. And it’s kind of evolved to what you guys know the Blue Team to be,” said Williams. “They’re practicing the opponents’ stuff, sometimes they have their own skill session, sometimes they are in weights with you guys.”

Buzz Williams went on to further explain why that group is important, eventually turning his attention to Jaelyn Lee. The head coach concluded by informing Lee he was being put on scholarship with the rest of the team erupting in celebration.

“It’s kind of turned into an important part of what we do. Held to the same standards as you guys, held to the same accountability academically, athletically. These guys have got to get better so at some point in time, at Kentucky, J Lee, you’ve got to play,” explained Williams. “Not (when) it’s a blowout and you get scrap minutes. No, we need another athlete in there to guard.”

According to Lee’s A&M Bio, he joined the program as a member of the 2022 recruiting class. He redshirted the 2022-23 season but played a vital role on the “Blue Team.”

Last season, Lee appeared in 9 games and finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds, a steal and a block. While he may not be a star for the Aggies, Williams is a believer in the importance of the unsung heroes, and now Lee will be on scholarship moving forward.
