Chris Doering says hiring Jimbo Fisher was the right move for Texas A&M: 'It was the perfect marriage'
Chris Doering still believes that hiring Jimbo Fisher was the right move for Texas A&M in 2017 despite Fisher’s firing on Sunday.
While things didn’t work out for Fisher at Texas A&M, the pairing made sense on paper back in 2017, Doering explained.
“It was a great hire at the time. It was everything A&M was looking for,” Doering said on College Sports on SiriusXM. “They had a national championship winning coach that had a history in the SEC as an assistant.”
Doering also believes Texas A&M made the most sense for Fisher. He was looking for a team willing to fork over a little bit more money for things like recruiting, and Texas A&M was that team.
“For Jimbo Fisher, it was everything he wasn’t getting at Florida State,” Doering said. “He was upset because he didn’t have the facilities that he needed, he didn’t have the recruiting budget, the support. They were gonna give one another what they needed. It was a perfect marriage, but just like many marriages, it doesn’t end up working out.”
