Conner Weigman has bounce-back game in Week 2 vs. McNeese State
Conner Weigman endured a long night in Texas A&M’s Week 1 performance against Notre Dame, but he appeared to get back on track in Week 2.
Weigman exited A&M’s game vs. McNeese State on Saturday after completing 11-of-14 passes for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 39 yards on 4 carries while leading Texas A&M to a 35-0 advantage.
He was removed from the game ahead of Texas A&M’s final drive of the half and was replaced by redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed.
As for the relatively-early hook, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko told ESPN that the Aggies wanted to get Reed some game reps with the first team. With the score well in-hand thanks in-part to Weigman’s play, the A&M was able to make that switch late in the first half.
Mike Elko told ESPN that he liked what they were able to get from QB Conner Weigman today and wanted to get QB Marcel Reed some reps with the rest of the first time guys.

It’s possible Texas A&M wants to assess what its other quarterback options look like in the event that Weigman struggles in the future. Reed was a 4-star quarterback prospect in the class of 2023.
Reed led Texas A&M to a field goal in his first drive under center. The Aggies took a 38-0 lead into the halftime break.
Texas A&M will hope Weigman can repeat this performance in Week 3 — as opposed to the one he turned in last week against Notre Dame. The Aggies will go on the road to face Florida in SEC play next week.
Getting backups on the field in a blowout is good coaching. That is all this was.
Weigman was ill in the Notre Dame game, which is why he was so off. Elko’s fault for not putting someone else in during that game.
Weigman will be good going foward.
