One thing you are likely to hear time and time again in the coming days is the fact that the coronavirus outbreak and the events around it are a fluid situation.

That’s the main message Texas A&M AD Ross Bjork shared as he met with the media on Friday to discuss the current status of Aggie sports after the SEC’s decision to not only suspend all sports activities from March 30 to April 15 but to also include football spring camps and training sessions to the list of activities being suspended by the league.

If you missed the announcement, here is the message from the SEC:

“The SEC today announced that all organized team activities, including competitions, team and individual practices, meetings and other organized gatherings, will be suspended through Apr. 15. The SEC had previously announced all competition was suspended through Mar. 30.”

One of the first questions posed to Bjork during his Friday afternoon media availability was the date the league set of April 15.

“It’s really the best guidance right now, in terms of let’s get through this period of time, let’s gather information,” Bjork answered. “One thing about it, again, I’m not a medical expert but we haven’t reached the peak yet (of the coronavirus outbreak), that’s what everyone is telling us. And so, does that peak come between now and then and then it starts to taper off and then you have some time?

“That was picked based on a lot of gathering of information from medical folks. Again, we said March 30th yesterday as a conference based on the information we had at that time. The NCAA then came out with the dead period in recruiting so we really wanted to match that aspect of it as a conference.”

Bjork’s response is somewhat cryptic but that’s the reality we are all facing as the uncertainty surrounding this event has only just begun and everyone continues to try and wrap their heads around this developing situation.
