Texas A&M hiring Duke’s Mike Elko is a “great fit” as college football analyst David Pollack sees it. Elko previously served as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator before Duke.

“I thought Elko was a great fit for a couple reasons,” Pollack said during “The Dan Patrick Show” on Monday. “He’s already been there. He knows the culture of A&M. Super successful. He’s also the opposite of Jimbo Fisher.”

“Jimbo Fisher’s done a really good job of accumulating talent but a zero good job of [building chemistry] and bringing people together,” Pollack added. “Obviously Elko was not the first name that they had on their list. They went after other people, and so be it.”

Pollack noted Elko is a “really good defensive coach” and described him as “disciplined” and “tough.” Elko made Duke a winner with a 16-9 mark after the Blue Devils won only 10 games between 2019 and 2021.

“Everybody will be excited to see what they do on offense because obviously Jimbo and the offense has been lagging behind for the past several years, “Pollack said.

With that said, Pollack noted that Elko will need to rejuvenate the program and fan base amid a “down” year. The Aggies (7-5) at least bounced back from a 5-7 season, but the program hasn’t eclipsed 9 wins since 2012.
