Eagles issue statement following indictment of recently-acquired DL Michael Bennett
Michael Bennett is quickly turning into more than the Eagles bargained for.
The former Seahawk and a seventh-round pick were traded this offseason to the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles for receiver Marcus Johnson and a fifth-round pick. It would appear Seattle has already won that trade as Bennett has reportedly been indicted by a Harris County grand jury on Friday for assaulting an elderly paraplegic.
If the allegations against Bennett turn out to be true, it would ironic that he was nominated as the Walter Payton NFL Man Of The Year Award. The award honors the player that exhibits his valor on and off the field. Texans defender JJ Watt won the award for his charitable work following the flooding in Houston.
Following the allegations against Bennett, the Eagles have issued the following statement:
Eagles Statement on Michael Bennett: We are aware of the situation involving Michael Bennett and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) March 23, 2018
While the statement doesn’t really say much, there appears to be a good chance Bennett may never plays a down in Philadephia.
