Elijah Robinson is taking over as interim head coach of Texas A&M after Jimbo Fisher was fired on Sunday.

Robinson, the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Aggies, will look to guide the Aggies in their final 2 games plus a bowl game. His first order of duty was making sure his players are okay as they deal with the transition. He also wants to keep the same brotherhood, even if the team looks different.

“The first thing I’m gonna say is this, the players are the most important people in the program,” Robinson said in a press conference Monday. “I think the biggest thing is understanding what they’re going through and what they’re thinking and addressing that first. And the biggest thing is, this is a brotherhood and we’re going to play for each other, we’re going to do everything for each other. Everything should be built off love and trust, because when you love somebody, you sacrifice. And when you love somebody you allow them to tell you the truth. That’s the biggest thing for us, is the brotherhood.”

Robinson said that he met with players on Sunday and they handled the news well. Now he’s looking to pick up a few more wins to close out the year.

“Those guys handled it really well,” Robinson said. “I think the leadership of our team is going to keep this thing going the right way. I think they really enjoyed last week, having all those fans in the stadium, and the way they played, they enjoyed that. And we’re gonna try and continue that as we move forward.”

Texas A&M will face off against Abeline Christian this week before closing out the season against LSU.
