Arkansas quarterback Nick Starkel threw for three touchdowns last week and already has seven in four games this season. But he also has six interceptions, including the five he threw last week in the loss to San Jose State.

It doesn’t really matter what else you do, five interceptions is going to be labeled a poor game. However, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher fully expects Starkel to bounce back this Saturday against his Aggies. Fisher said Starkel is “a competitor” and called him “a heck of a player” during his Wednesday press conference.

Starkel was at Texas A&M the last two seasons and played for Fisher, who was in his first season at College Station last fall. Fisher said Wednesday Starkel could have been a starter for Texas A&M but that only one quarterback can play.

Here’s what else Fisher said during his press conference on Wednesday:

  • On whether QB Kellen Mond will be used more in the Texas A&M’s running game: Not necessarily, maybe, maybe not. We were a few inches off.. they had some good players that beat some blocks.
  • On Arkansas young talent: Athletic, big long, very good players. you can see the talent in there skill talent, for sure.
  • On last year’s game: They ran their normal defense, we couldn’t beat them off the block… it was that simple.
on the connections between the Arkansas players and staff with Texas A&M: you do that a lot in this game, it’s amazing. where ever you go these days, it’s pretty normal.
