Texas A&M is mourning the loss of a former player, who battled a rare form of leukemia.

His father, former Dallas Cowboys QB Babe Laufenberg, shared the news and his reaction on Twitter.

“Today we lost a son, a brother, a friend, and a warrior,” the father wrote. “Have never seen a person battle like Luke Laufenberg, but he lost his fight with cancer. He was truly inspirational. The hole in our hearts will never be filled. You are my hero. RIP my sweet Luke. See you on the other side.”

Laufenberg, 21, battled Burkitt, a rare form of leukemia, since he was diagnosed with the disease the day after Christmas in 2017, the Dallas Morning News reported. He was called cancer-free in May 2018 but dealt with further health issues since this spring.

Laufenberg walked on at A&M in 2016 as a tight end, but transferred to Mesa Community College in Arizona before reportedly being diagnosed with Burkitt after his first season there.
