Ahead of the SEC showdown between No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 16 Arkansas this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET, the head coach for the Aggies received high praise from CBS college football analyst and play-by-play man for the game, Gary Danielson.

“I’ve known Jimbo (Fischer) since he was an assistant coach for Nick Saban at LSU. He’s a hard worker, has a creative mind and is a task master. And the fact that he’s won a national championship — I think that puts him on any list that you put together for college coaches,” Danielson said on CBS Sports HQ this week, per 247Sports.

“Sometimes, I think Jimbo gets in his own way when he does his interviews. It’s always like he’s thinking of three things at the same time. If you look at his play sheet, it looks like it has 100 plays all the time. But on the practice field, he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen. Any quarterback would love to play for the guy.”

Since arriving in College Station before the 2018 season, Fisher has led Texas A&M to a 29-10 overall record. Danielson expects Fisher’s program to continue on an upward trajectory.

“(Fisher) is tough,” Danielson added. “He’s very tough on his coaches, but the results he’s put together and the job he’s done at A&M — he’s taking a team that was more of a finesse football team and spread football team, and he’s turning them around to look more like how Florida State, how LSU looked when he coached there and how Alabama looks now. They are very balanced, and he likes to run and throw the ball.

“With this defense, if they can get the quarterback play up to his standards — the injury has hurt them — then Jimbo will be right up with the coaches we talk about again the season.”
