Greg McElroy sees the big showdown in College Station this week as the SEC West championship game, and he expects a “war in the trenches” on Saturday.
McElroy noted the Aggies defense produced 15 tackles for loss last time out against Arkansas plus the Aggies’ back-to-back games with 7 sacks. The Aggies allow 18.6 points and 253.8 yards per game.
“This defensive line is completely wrecking havoc,” McElroy said on “Always College Football” on Tuesday.
McElroy highlighted Aggies junior defensive lineman Shemar Turner as one “who can completely take over the game”. Turner has 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 15 tackles this year.
Conversely, McElroy noted that Alabama’s offensive line “has been a little shaky” this season. The Tide have allowed 20 sacks in 5 games thus far.
McElory on Texas A&M offense: ‘They’re starting to get things going’
McElroy described Texas A&M’s offense as balanced. The Aggies had 200-plus yards on both the run and pass last week, McElroy noted, and the Aggies went over 200 yards rushing for a second-straight week.
“They’re starting to get things going,” McElroy said. “I really like what they’re doing.”
He noted that Aggies quarterback Max Johnson “looks comfortable” with both throwing and running. Johnson has 436 yards passing for 6 TDs versus 1 interception, and he has 52 yards rushing on 16 carries.
In addition, McElroy talked up Aggies running back Le’Veon Moss as “incredible” this season. Moss has 276 yards and 2 TDs on 46 carries plus 5 catches for 34 yards as he took on a bigger role since SEC play kicked off.
“You just look at how balanced he is — how he makes the first defender miss,” McElroy said. “Le’Veon Moss is going to be a superstar in college football, and he’s probably going to get there sooner than you realize.”
