Haynes King injury update: Extent of Texas A&M QB’s ankle issue revealed, per report
Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Aggies game against Colorado.
At the time, the injury didn’t look good and the 6-3, 200-pound freshman didn’t return to the game.
On Monday, Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports reported that King suffered a fractured ankle on the play and that he will be out until at least mid-October.
King had a great fall camp for the No. 7 Aggies and big things were expected of him this season. He completed 21-of-33 passes for 292 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions to lead A&M to a 41-10 win over Kent State in the season opener.
Replacing King will be sophomore Zach Calzada. The 6-4, 210-pounder struggled for much of the Colorado game after replacing King, but he led a late scoring drive that was capped by an 18-yards TD pass to Isaiah Spiller that allowed his team escape with a 10-7 win.
For the game, Calzada finished 18-of-38 through the air for 183 yards and the game-winning touchdown, while also adding 28 rushing yards on 7 carries.
Texas A&M will return to action this Saturday against New Mexico.
