Haynes King leads Texas A&M to win in return; Aggies fans remain skeptical

Texas A&M opened its 2022 season on Saturday with an easy win over visiting Sam Houston State, 31-0.

The Aggies were ranked 6th in the AP poll to begin the season and many believe they have the talent to contend for a berth in the College Football Playoff.

In Saturday’s victory, there was plenty of attention on sophomore quarterback Haynes King, who was playing in his first game since suffering a season-ending ankle injury against Colorado last September.

Expectations have been high for the 6-3, 205-pound sophomore ever since he arrived in College Station, and on Saturday he delivered a solid outing in his return to the field.

King completed 20-of-30 passes for 364 yards and also added 35 yards on the ground on 6 carries. He did thrown a pair of interceptions in the winning effort but he also tossed 3 touchdown passes in helping the Aggies move to 1-0 on the season.

Texas A&M fans, however, weren’t overly thrilled with what they saw, as was evident on Twitter:
