The Texas A&M quarterback competition will be something to watch as the Aggies head towards Spring Ball.

Trevor Knight has graduated, and the transfers of Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray has left the depth chart relatively thin.

Redshirt freshman Nick Starkel and former JUCO transfer Jake Hubenak are the two returning signal-callers for head coach Kevin Sumlin. The biggest story at the position is Kellen Mond — a 4-star prospect hailing from IMG Academy in Florida.

Regarded as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks within the 2017 class, Mond has already enrolled at school. He will benefit from entering a college conditioning program — as well as learning the playbook, acclimating to academia at the university level, and also participating in the spring practice period.

In an interview with 247Sports, Mond spoke about what he’s expecting from himself in 2017:

“My goal is to start as a true freshman. That’s my mindset going in. I’m just really trying to work hard and be a great leader and push the other quarterbacks and players.”

Should Mond start right away, he’ll be tested in the 2017 season opener — as the Aggies will go on the road against UCLA.
