According to a statement published on Thursday, Michael Bennett plans to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to activism. Starting in 2017, the Seahawks defensive end will be donating 100 percent of his money from endorsements to causes geared toward helping minority communities and empower women of color.

“I was inspired by Chance The Rapper to ‘think bigger’ when he pledged one million dollars to Chicago kids and their school system. So, I’ll be joining him by investing in the future of our youth.

“The system is failing our kids, and it will be up to the community and our leaders to help keep the hope alive by focusing on improving our education system and the future of our kids. Any company that decides to invest in me, just know that you’ll be investing in opportunities and providing inspiration for these families- many who feel unnoticed or go unmentioned.”

The former Texas A&M Aggie will also donate 50 percent of his jersey sales to support inner-city garden projects.

This type of activism is commonplace for Bennett, who is heavily involved in charity work and community rebuilding. In fact, just yesterday, he published a piece through the Players’ Tribune titled “Why I Stand with the Women’s Strike.”

His own personal charity, The Bennett Foundation, aims at tackling childhood obesity through proper nutrition, as well as free football camps that he hosts for underprivileged youths.

Many athletes preach that the world needs to change, but it’s nice to see someone so involved in embodying that change on a daily basis. Because of the frequency of his efforts and the variety of the programs, it’s clear that Michael Bennett wants to help all kinds people live a better life.
