Jacob Hester of Sirius XM talked about what perplexes him regarding Texas A&M. Hester was dumbfounded that the Aggies aren’t a better football program than they are.

Hester referenced the lack of a national championship and conference championship in many years. The last time that Texas A&M won a conference championship was in 1998 in the Big 12.

It has been since 1939 that the football team has won a national title.

“1998 was the last time that they won a conference championship. They have only won that one in ’98 since 1994. That’s a long time for a program that has as much as they have. As far as resources and desire and want to. 1939, we’re talking 80 years since they’ve won a national championship. I can not explain it. If you said: ‘Your life is on the line, explain why Texas A&M can’t be more consistent on the gridiron.’ I’m dead. I’m gone. I’m 6 feet under. I couldn’t do it, there’s no way I could.”

It has been a long time since Texas A&M has gotten close to reaching the national championship. During the Covid-shortened season in 2020, Texas A&M finished with a 9-1 record.

The Johnny Manziel era at College Station was the closest that the program has been to that level before that.

Does Hester have a point?
