On the 247Sports Composite, Mathews is listed at 6-2, 193 pounds and rated 4-stars, the No. 2 safety and No. 38 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2022. After picking up 31 scholarship offers, Mathews narrowed things down to Texas A&M, Florida and LSU. Mathews committed to LSU back on April 23, 2021, but backed off that pledge on July 30.
