Jahmir Johnson announces transfer from Tennessee to Texas A&M
After entering the transfer portal last month, Jahmir Johnson has elected to depart Tennessee and continue his college football career at Texas A&M.
Johnson made the announcement on social media Saturday.
“Past three years, the University of Tennessee has become my home. After much consideration with my close friends and family, I will be deciding to transfer to Texas A & M University to continue to play football in the SEC at a high level while also pursuing my graduate degree,” Johnson wrote on Twitter.
Johnson joined UT in 2018 as a redshirt sophomore, after previously playing at Arizona Western Community College in 2017 and Rhode Island in 2016.
Johnson will join Jimbo Fisher’s program as a graduate transfer. He played in 24 games for Tennessee, making 17 starts. This past season, he played in seven games (starting five) for the Vols.
I will never applaud the implosion of anther SEC program, but the Vols have a good coaching hire and should start to put things together over the next few years. In the meantime, the maroon goons will benefit from this transfer. We have great talent on the O-line, but need experience – Johnson should start from day one.
Transfer portal has changed college football for the worse IMO. Tennessee’s o-line wasn’t that good. They hyped up this o-line last year and was maybe a little better but still none of them could pass protect to save their lives. Y’all gonna need to keep a running QB. My guess knew he would lose his starting job and jumped ship. Or wasn’t getting his “McDonalds” bags anymore and needed a new employer….jab jab
I don’t see any problems with the portal. It’s great for the players as it gives them a better opportunity for playing time, or just a must needed second chance.
Agree. It’s a mixed bag in the sense that it’s good for the players, but makes it harder for the coaches to keep talented depth. It’s another stressor for coaches and another area where they can slip up if not paying attention to player morale. Like all challenges, some coaches will be better than others in that area. In the end, though, if it’s better for the players and doesn’t truly detract from the game, which it doesn’t, I support it.
Someone is bitter. Knoxville was a dumpster fire… Can’t blame a kid for transferring to a functional program. Your insinuation of payment is also near-sighted and based in absolutely no fact. Have fun toiling away in the SEC East cellar with Vandy!
A great way to round out our O line! Johnson’s experience should be a great asset to the new recruits. He look a little thinner than the listed 300lbs but that shouldn’t be a problem. Welcome to Aggieland!
