Texas A&M is taking a calculated approach when it comes to its upcoming spring football game.

The way the current NCAA calendar breaks down, all Division I sports are under a recruiting dead period until April 15, 2021. With that in mind, the Aggies are planning to play their upcoming spring game on April 17.

Should the NCAA end the dead period as scheduled on April 15, Texas A&M should have the ability to host recruits for the spring game.

That’s not all, Jimbo Fisher is hoping the 12th Man will be in attendance for the team’s upcoming spring game.

“We’ll (start spring practice) in March, we have our spring game set for April 17th,” Fisher said last week during his National Signing Day press conference. “So hopefully they’ve got the date where you can’t come on campus is April 15th, if that doesn’t change, we’ll be allowed to have fans and recruits and things on campus.

“Now, if that changes, we’ll have to adjust, but we’re going to keep it right there with the spring game and we’ll start right in the back end of March, where the normal spring break would have been the very next week. We’ll start the same and it works out perfectly on April 17 for our spring game.”

Based on that response, Aggie fans would be wise to record the date of Texas A&M’s spring game using a pencil and not a pen because things could be changing based on what the NCAA decides to do with the current dead period in recruiting.
