Jimbo Fisher previews challenge of playing Alabama’s ‘outstanding’ defense

Jimbo Fisher spoke to reporters Monday afternoon regarding Texas A&M’s upcoming Week 6 matchup against Alabama, among other items.
Saturday afternoon will pit 2 of the top defenses in the SEC against each other in a crucial SEC West battle. The Aggies and Tide are the lone West programs still undefeated in conference play, so for obvious reasons this is a huge one.
The Tide held one of the top offenses in the conference (Ole Miss) to just 10 points a few weeks ago and looked good again during last week’s 40-17 win over Mississippi State.
Fisher noted a bunch of different players on Alabama’s roster, including Dallas Turner, Chris Braswell and Malachi Moore. Here’s what he had to say about the Tide’s defensive group.
“We play Alabama this week, Alabama’s a very good football team. Defensively, they’re outstanding right now. Start out up front, Dallas Turner can rush, No. 41 Braswell he can bring it on the edge. He got a pick 6 off a deflection playing the screen, he can play the screen, he made it broke a tackle and scored. Inside D-tackles are physical and strong as always, they’ve got backers that can run… Secondary is really good, experienced star Malachi Moore at nickel, he never comes off the field he’s always out there playing, makes all the calls and checks. He’s like Ainias (Smith), he’s been there forever.”
The Tide currently have the No. 2 scoring defense in the SEC even after playing teams such as Texas and Ole Miss. They sit at 4th in the conference in total yards allowed per game and are one of just 5 SEC programs holding opponents to an average of fewer than 300 yards per game.
The Aggies are first in that category, allowing opponents just 253 yards per game thus far.

The Aggies and Crimson Tide face off at 3:30 p.m. ET from Kyle Field in College Station. The game will be aired on CBS.
