Jimbo Fisher previews Week 2 matchup against Miami, explains emphasis for defense
Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies travel to south Florida this Saturday to take on Miami, a game which should present the Aggies’ first true test of the year.
Texas A&M dismantled New Mexico in Week 1 and looked much improved from last season’s rough start. QB Conner Weigman definitely stood out, throwing for 236 yards and 5 touchdowns. He finished with the same number of incompletions as touchdowns.
It’s one thing to do that against the Lobos. It’s another entirely to do it against a good Power 5 foe in Miami.
The Hurricanes have the makings of a better than average ACC program this year. On Monday, Fisher went into depth about what stands out about the Hurricanes at his weekly press conference.
He started by praising Miami running back Henry Parrish, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown during the Hurricanes’ dismantling of their midwestern alter ego, Miami OH. Containing him is paramount Saturday, says Fisher.
Jimbo Fisher: “Miami is a very good opponent, and they know how to run it.”
“It’s going to be a great challenge, and their back is very good… It’s going to be a physical game inside. We’ll have to win those battles and get their backs on the ground.”

Miami also has a strong quarterback in Tyler Van Dyke who has been with the Hurricanes since 2020. Injury derailed his 2022 season, but he looked decent against Miami OH, throwing for 201 yards and a touchdown with 1 interception. Not his best outing, but Van Dyke is definitely capable.
Jimbo Fisher on Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke: “He’s been productive and played great.”
“Until you know how a guy is coached, it’s hard to judge him, but you can judge his physical skills, and he’s very physical.”
